DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY NUCLEAR WASTE FUND GROWS TO OVER $50 BILLION
ECA Staff | 11/21/2023 On November 14, the Office of Inspector General issued a report titled, “The Department of Energy Nuclear Waste Fund’s Fiscal Year 2023 Financial Statement Audit” (DOE-OIG-24-02). According to the results of the audit report, as of September 30, 2023, and 2022, the Nuclear Waste Fund currently has total assets of $50.26
billion, up from $48.48 billion at the end of FY 2022. The Fund’s liabilities not covered by budgetary resources total $84.39 billion. This includes remaining liability from spent nuclear fuel (SNF) litigation of at least $34.1 billion.
