WHAT WILL FUNDING LEVELS LOOK LIKE IF THE CR PASSES THIS WEEK?

ECA Members have asked ECA for a listing of the funding levels if the CR extending government funding until September 30 is enacted. The CR will fund provide funding at FY2024 levels - not at numbers similar to the FY2025 House Bill (H.R.8997). This serves as an effective funding cut at many sites due to inflation.

Please see the charts below to compare FY2024 enacted budget line items against the FY2025 House and Senate (S.4927) numbers. The level of funding in the proposed CR for FY 2025 aligns with FY2024 Enacted. To see the CR for yourself, click here.

The House is expected to vote on the CR later today (March 11), and the Senate will vote later this week. For more in-depth information on the CR, see the linked report from Politico.

“The time is now” to advance U.S. nuclear—Part 1

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is gearing up to tackle an influx of licensing requests and oversight of advanced nuclear reactor technology, especially small modular reactors. As part of their preparation, NRC commissioners convened a hearing on March 4 to learn from industry stakeholders—both domestic and international—what the agency can do to improve its effectiveness and efficiency. The three-hour hearing focused on the ADVANCE Act, bipartisan legislation passed in 2024 that outlines a number of actions the NRC must take to accelerate licensing, lower its cost, and simplify permitting.

Eagle Mountain looking to bring nuclear power to attract AI businesses

EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah (KUTV) — The debate over nuclear power is a hot topic in Eagle Mountain. The city is looking to bring the alternative energy source to town and with it attract AI businesses. It started when the city of Eagle Mountain proposed changes to its zoning to make way for nuclear power in December, then tabling the motion until March.

TerraPower roundup: Progress for Natrium project

TerraPower has continued to make aggressive progress in several areas for its Natrium Reactor Demonstration Project since the beginning of the year. Natrium is an advanced 345-MWe reactor that has liquid sodium as a coolant, improved fuel utilization, enhanced safety features, and an integrated energy storage system, allowing for a brief power output boost to 500 MWe if needed for grid resiliency. The company broke ground for its first Natrium plant in 2024 near a retiring coal facility in Kemmerer, Wyo.
