The Office of Environmental Management (EM) has announced key leadership assignments:
Candice Robertson will continue to lead the Office of Environmental Management (EM) and will become EM’s Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary (PDAS). ECA is excited to continue to
work with Candice on issues relevant to EM and our member communities.
Roger Jerrell is back! Roger will return to EM as a senior advisor. Jerrell served in EM during the President’s first Administration, working closely with ECA and host local governments during that period. He has since served in Oak Ridge UCOR's General Counsel, previously serving as UCOR's Government and Stakeholder
Interface. Roger brings a wealth and knowledge and experience to the EM program that will be incredibly valuable.
Jeff Avery, EM's Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary (PDAS) will be moving to the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) to lead critical functions. Jeff has been an active and diligent leader at EM, working closely and intently with local governments and communities on
critical EM issues during his service the past two years. We expect that we will continue to see Jeff in many leadership roles in NNSA and DOE and that he will continue to be a critical player in our national defense infrastructure. Thank you Jeff; ECA looks forward to working with you at NNSA.
The new assignments were announced in an email that Candice sent to EM Staff:
"I want to inform you of changes in the EM leadership team. Jeff Avery, EM’s Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary (PDAS), has been selected to lead critical functions in NNSA. Under Jeff’s leadership the past two years, EM has delivered significant cleanup progress, improved relationships with Tribes, regulators, and stakeholders, and made important organizational enhancements, including the establishment of the Chief Technical
Officer. His wealth of experience with all aspects of effective program, project, and resource management will enable him to make an immediate and positive contribution to NNSA’s vital national security missions, and I look forward to working with him in his new role.
I am pleased to welcome Roger Jarrell back to EM headquarters as a senior advisor. Roger returns to EM after having spent several years working at a
variety of DOE sites, including at Oak Ridge. He has a deep knowledge of, and passion for, our mission and is eager to re-engage with the people of EM across the complex. Roger’s advice and counsel will be important as we work to continue to advance cleanup progress not only to reduce environmental risks, but to more broadly enable U.S. jobs, U.S. energy and U.S. security for the communities near our sites, and our nation as a whole.
I am honored to continue leading EM and will also assume the duties of the PDAS role. We have an exciting year of opportunity ahead of us, and a dedicated and talented workforce across the EM complex. Together, with a strong focus on safety and a drive for innovation, we will continue to make cleanup progress and realize achievements that, in some instances, have been years or decades in the making. Thank you for everything you do to serve our mission, the
communities near our sites and the American taxpayer.
Sincerely,
Candice Robertson, EM Senior Advisor"
ECA looks forward to working with Candice, Roger, and and Jeff on issues relevant to our members, and will continue to provide updated on leadership changes within EM as the new
Administration shapes up.
