JOIN ECA & GAO TODAY - WHAT SHOULD EM'S CLEANUP STRATEGY LOOK LIKE IN THE FUTURE
Earlier this summer, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) completed a report on nuclear waste titled, "An Integrated Disposal Plan Could Help DOE Complete Its Cleanup Mission and Save Billions". ECA is hosting an informational webinar to learn more about the recommendations to develop DOE complex-wide analyses to assess the progress of its cleanup mission. These recommendations include; optimization models to identify optimal disposal pathways; a call to develop a complex-wide disposal plan; and the creation of a
forum for EM, cleanup sites, and disposal facility regulators to address regulatory constraints to optimal disposal approaches. GAO analyzed EM waste data, interviewed or requested information from all 15 EM sites, visited commercial nuclear waste disposal facilities, and developed a hypothetical model for optimizing transuranic waste disposal using EM data. Join ECA on July 24 at 2pm ET to learn more about the report. Speakers will include: - Facilitator: Seth Kirshenberg – Executive Director, Energy Communities Alliance
- Nathan Anderson, Director - Natural Resources and Environment, GAO
- Amanda Kolling, Assistant Director - Natural Resources and
Environment, GAO

WHAT YOU'VE MISSED: Cleanup Crews Find Solution to Improve Spent Nuclear Fuel Processing at SRS AIKEN, S.C. — Workers at the Savannah River Site (SRS) have demonstrated their resourcefulness and unique capabilities by implementing a newly created carrier to transport spent nuclear
fuel, reducing the time needed to process the material for permanent disposal in coming years. Engineers and operators of an underwater basin at SRS where the fuel is stored recently
redesigned carriers used to transport and store a special type of the material. The carriers now have a different material alloy, or aluminum, which more easily dissolves, reducing the time needed for fuel disposition in the site’s H Canyon chemical separations facility. thermal management solutions tailored specifically for hyperscale and co-location data centres, powered by steam and electricity from Oklo's advanced nuclear power plants. California-based liquid metal fast reactor developer Oklo and Vertiv will collaborate on modular, energy-efficient power and cooling solutions and reference designs developed specifically to support data centres driven by nuclear power. test reactors. The Fuel Line Pilot Program would see the DOE approve facilities developed by U.S. companies to produce the fuel needed for test reactors the DOE expects to authorize under the Reactor Pilot Program announced in June. Like the reactors they’re meant to fuel, the fabrication facilities would be built on sites outside the DOE’s national
laboratories but authorized by the DOE under “a fast-tracked approach to enable future commercial licensing activities for potential applicants.” Read the full story
Gone Fission Podcast - Nuclear Opportunities
Workshop July 9, 2025 | S5 E3 In this week’s episode, Host Michael Butler discusses plans to expand the Gone Fission podcast’s coverage to include the emerging nuclear renaissance. The expanded coverage begins later this month at the Nuclear Opportunities Workshop in
Knoxville, Tennessee. Sponsored by the East Tennessee Economic Council (ETEC), the Workshop is expected to attract more than 800 attendees representing major companies in the nuclear industry. Topics will include small modular reactors, advanced reactor fuel, uranium enrichment, nuclear plant financing and more. Learn more about this exciting conference in this week’s interview with ETEC President and CEO Tracy Boatner. https://gonefissionpodcast.com/ NucleCast - Paul Amato: The Future of Nuclear Strategy July 22, 2025 | S03 E228 In this episode of NucleCast, Adam engages with Paul Amato, a seasoned expert in nuclear deterrence policy. They discuss the evolving landscape of
nuclear strategy, the importance of education and leadership in nuclear discussions, and the challenges faced in communicating the significance of nuclear deterrence. Amato emphasizes the need for modernization of nuclear forces and the necessity of understanding the risks associated with nuclear escalation. The conversation also touches on the differences in nuclear strategy between Europe and the Pacific, and the importance of providing flexible options for national leadership in the face of
nuclear threats. https://rss.com/podcasts/nuclecast-podcast/
