TODAY'S HIGHLIGHTS & WHAT TO KNOW THIS WEEK
DOE NAMES NEW HANFORD SITE MANAGER
The Department of Energy (DOE) shared that it had named a new site manager at the Hanford site to take over for acting Site Manager Brian Harkins: "The Department of Energy (DOE) is committed to safely advancing the important cleanup mission at Hanford and is pleased to announce that Ray
Geimer has been named permanent Hanford Site Manager effective September 7th. With a master’s degree in chemical engineering, decades of experience with DOE, and expertise in a wide range of cleanup responsibilities, Geimer is well positioned to lead Hanford into the next chapter of cleanup success. With experience in nuclear facility construction, nuclear facility operations, deactivation and
decommissioning (D&D), engineering and large-scale project management, Geimer brings a strong skillset that will serve Hanford well as the cleanup mission advances. Bringing over a decade of service at Hanford, Geimer most recently led operations of the 222-S Laboratory for Navarro-ATL in support of the tank waste mission and was a part of the Central Plateau Cleanup Company team that completed the transfer of K-Basin
radioactive sludge to safer storage away from the Columbia River. Before joining the Hanford team, Geimer performed work at a number of EM sites including Idaho, West Valley in New York, and Rocky Flats in Colorado." Overcoming challenges to financing is critical to accelerating technological advancement, ensuring U.S. leadership in meeting rapidly growing global energy demand, and enhancing American economic competitiveness, geopolitical influence and national security. Financing for these projects can come from various sources, including: - Venture capital;
- Private Investors;
- Institutions;
- Governments;
- and other parties
Join ECA as we explore the key issues and solutions to today’s financing challenges, and how the financial feasibility of such projects can be improved at both the demonstration and commercialization stages of development.

WHAT YOU'VE MISSED: Nuclear officials
endorse using plutonium from dismantled warheads A forthcoming Trump administration plan to make Cold War-era plutonium
available to power companies for reactor fuel deserves a close look, nuclear industry officials said Wednesday. Why it matters: Experts in arms control and nuclear safety say the idea — which would repurpose plutonium from dismantled warheads — is costly and dangerous. They worry it could increase the likelihood that U.S. enemies could get their hands on the material used to build nuclear
weapons. Read the full story DOE allocates HALEU to Antares, Standard Nuclear, and ACU/Natura The Department of Energy made conditional commitments yesterday to provide high-assay low-enriched uranium to three companies: reactor developer Antares Nuclear; fuel fabricator Standard Nuclear; and Natura Resources, which is backing Abilene Christian
University’s development of a small Molten Salt Research Reactor and pursuing a commercial reactor design of its own. Following a contracting process, some of the companies “could receive their HALEU later this year.” Read the full story Central Illinois Rallies to Celebrate a New Era for the Clinton Clean Energy Center CLINTON, IL – AUGUST 27, 2025 – Hundreds of community members and labor leaders joined employees from Constellation yesterday at the Clinton Clean Energy Center to welcome Meta and celebrate the landmark agreement that secures the long-term future of the plant and the reliable, clean energy it provides to the Midwest energy grid. Gone Fission Podcast - Charles Oppenheimer August 4, 2025 | S5
E4 Charles Oppenheimer, the grandson of atomic pioneer Dr. J. Robert Oppenheimer, is Michael Butler’s guest on this week’s episode of the Gone Fission podcast. Ironically, this episode drops two days before August 6 which will be the 80th anniversary of America's use of the atomic bomb over Hiroshima, a pivotal event that launched the end of World War II--and one in which Charles
Oppenheimer's grandfather, Dr. J. Robert Oppenheimer, played a major role. Charles and Michael sat down at the recent Nuclear Opportunities Workshop in Knoxville, Tennessee, for a wide-ranging discussion that covered everything from nuclear plant financing to what it’s like to be an Oppenheimer in today’s world. Was he surprised that “Oppenheimer” was such a blockbuster hit at the box office? Find out in this week’s episode. https://gonefissionpodcast.com/ NucleCast - Matthew Loh: The United States' Relationship with Singapore and China August 26, 2025 | S03 E233 In this episode of NucleCast, host Adam speaks with Matthew Loh, a defense reporter from Singapore, about the complex
