REVIEW DOE BUDGET WITH ECA'S FEDERAL BUDGET TRACKER; HEARINGS ON DOE BUDGET UPCOMING
Last month, the Department of Energy (DOE) Appendix for the President’s Discretionary Budget Request was released, as a part of Technical Supplement to the
2026 Budget (Request) Appendix. In conjunction, DOE released a summary of its funding, the Budget in Brief. ECA has prepared graphs to help compare topline funding for DOE, its Offices, and EM sites over the past two fiscal years. Please see
below:
*FY2025 Enacted topline not available for all Offices **NNSA & DOE Discretionary total does not include $4.782 billion in Reconciliation resources for NNSA.
Note that one the largest cuts in the EM program is to the WIPP site, which is relied on heavily by every other EM site and by NNSA for disposal for national defense TRU waste – a critical national defense mission. As noted, this is the President’s REQUEST for a budget.
Congress will be holding budget hearings over the next couple of weeks to “mark-up” the President’s request and develop the actual budget for all federal agencies. The House Committee on Energy and
Commerce Energy Subcommittee will hold a hearing today (June 10 at 10:00am ET) to review the FY2026 budget for the Department of Energy. To view the hearing, and review the hearing mmo, click here. The Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources will also be holding a "Full Committee Hearing to Examine the President's Budget Request
for the U.S. Department of the Interior for Fiscal Year 2026". The hearing will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, June 11 at 10:00am. To view the hearing live, click here! Congress
typically amends President budget requests. The House and Senate Energy and Water Development Subcommittees on Appropriations is responsible for appropriations pertaining to DOE and NNSA programs. The Department of Energy Appendix can be found in the Appendix document beginning on Page 281. To learn more about how the budget and appropriations process impacts DOE programs, visit ECA’s website. ECA looks forward to providing updates on the budget as they develop, so be sure to subscribe to the ECA Bulletin for future

WHAT YOU'VE MISSED: Wisconsin Assembly committee advances nuclear siting, conference plan A pair of bills related to
promoting nuclear energy’s future in Wisconsin passed through Assembly committee on Wednesday with its $2.25 million appropriation removed. The bills create a nuclear siting study and holding a nuclear power summit. The siting study in the amended Assembly
Bill 108 would now also include fusion generation and would be due to the Legislature 19 months after the bill goes into effect. Assembly Bill 132 would require the organization of a Nuclear Power Summit in Madison at a new University of Wisconsin-Madison College of Engineering building. reactor licensing process. The move could speed up the new reactor licensing process by about three to six months and save millions of dollars. “We believe Congress can safely eliminate the mandatory hearing requirement without worrying that doing so will compromise safety or public involvement in the NRC process,” the letter reads. “In short, the statutory mandatory hearing serves only to cause delay and impose needless expense. It should be
eliminated.” Read the full story Trio of GAIN vouchers for sensors,
