In the never-ending changes to the Department’s organization, DOE announced a new re-organization moving the “clean energy” offices to the annals of history of DOE and creating new offices focused on quantum computing, artificial intelligence, critical minerals and fusion energy while retaining EM, NE, LM, Office of Science and others.
DOE identified that “This realignment reflects the Administration’s priorities of expanding American energy production, accelerating scientific and technological leadership, and ensuring the continued safety and readiness of the Nation’s nuclear weapons stockpile.” Some of the highlighted offices include: the Office for Energy Dominance and Financing (former loan program office – which is still providing loans), the Office of Technology
Commercialization, the Office of Hydrocarbons and Geothermal Energy Office, Office of Critical Minerals and Energy Innovation, the Office of Fusion, and a new Office of Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Computing.
National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), the Office of Environmental Management (EM) and LM have not changed reporting structure, however the Office of Nuclear Energy now reports to the Office of
the Under Secretary of Energy.
Next up is the EM, NNSA, NE and other office re-organizations (now that we have Senate confirmed leadership) and we will keep you posted as they progress.
