Roger Jarrell was terminated from his position as principal deputy assistant secretary (PDAS) of the Department of Energy’s Office of Environmental Management (DOE-EM) on Monday, September 8, according to reporting from E&E News. With no Assistant Secretary confirmed for the office, Jarrell had been serving as Acting Assistant Secretary for EM since April.
Prior to his role as PDAS and Acting Assistant Secretary, he had previously served as Senior Advisor for EM from January to April 2025. He had also previously served in the first Trump administration as EM’s interface with the Office of the Secretary of Energy and other senior leadership.
Prior to his involvement in EM, he served as the General Counsel
and Government and Stakeholder Interface at United Cleanup Oak Ridge (UCOR) LLC.
