HOUSE PASSES NDAA AND RECONCILIATION PACKAGEYesterday, the House brought two major bills to the floor for votes: their version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), and a full year continuing resolution (CR) to continue funding the federal government for all of FY27 once the fiscal year ends on September 30. The NDAA was brought to the House floor back in June for debate, but final voting was postponed
until after the Fourth of July recess. The bill was brought back to the floor and passed in a 216-212 vote. The bill now heads to the Senate where it likely will not be taken up until after the midterm elections. As the end of the fiscal year comes closer, the House has been preparing to keep the government funded via a CR which will keep the government funded for the entirity of FY27. The measure passed in a narrow 216-214
vote where is now heads to the Senate for consideration. However, its viability largely depends on the outcome of the midterm elections. Following the midterm elections, this Congress will become a “lame duck” Congress, offering an opportunity for many difficult bills to proceed (as there will be two years before the next election). Keep an eye on the Nuclear Waste Policy Act amendments and potentially other nuclear
focused bills. ECA will continue to monitor these bills and provide updates as they progress through Congress. Stay up to date with the latest federal appropriations updates by visiting our updated Federal Budget Tracker
