NNSA Acting Administrator Neile Miller has decided to leave the agency effective June 14.
Dr. Donald Cook, Deputy Administrator for Defense Programs, will become Acting Administrator upon Ms. Miller's departure.
Following is Ms. Miller's announcement that will be sent to NNSA's workforce today:

"For the past nearly three years, it has been my privilege to serve in the NNSA as the Principal Deputy Administrator. When I went to work at OMB in 1987 as the examiner for the waste management part of Defense Programs, I certainly never imagined I would one day have the amazing opportunity to become part of the leadership of DOE's nuclear security enterprise. After much discussion with my family, however, I believe it is now time for me to move on to other professional challenges outside of the government.
"When Tom D'Agostino asked me for permission to put my name forward as the NNSA PDA, I knew from first-hand experience that if confirmed I would be working among some of the most dedicated, thoughtful and creative professionals in the Federal government. I knew that I'd have great professional satisfaction--and yes, often fun--working with Tom to address the challenges of carrying out the NNSA missions in the face of budget crises, changing world events, and interagency initiatives, to name a few. What I could not know, but do now, is how personally honored I would feel about being able to call each of you "colleague" as we together have worked to assure the success of our enterprise into the future.
"The kinship developed in working in an organization with such tremendous purpose of the NNSA is unlike anything I have previously experienced. Know that the work you do every day, to help keep our great nation safe, will bring me great comfort as I will now watch and support you from afar.
"I especially owe a debt of gratitude for your assistance over the transition period after Tom left in January. Until the time when a fully confirmed Administrator and Undersecretary is in place, I ask that you now give your full support to Don Cook as he takes on the role of acting Administrator and acting Undersecretary for Nuclear Security.
