Secretary Moniz and Deputy Secretary Poneman sent the following message today:
Dear Colleagues:
Today, the President announced a number of additional nominations, including one of our own. Many of you already know our colleague in the Office of Nuclear Energy (NE), Monica Regalbuto, and we know you will join us in congratulating her on her nomination to be Assistant Secretary for Environmental Management (EM).
Over the last two and a half years, the Department has been privileged to have David Huizenga lead EM, building on his previous two decades of public service in NNSA and DOE. We are deeply indebted to Dave for his willingness to take on this challenge during an uncertain time. He has done a tremendous job tackling complex problems in the field and at headquarters, including the current situation at WIPP, and, to no one's surprise, he has also been a great leader of people.
With our support Dave will be returning shortly to his home in NNSA and his position of Principal Assistant Deputy Administrator for Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation. There he will continue to provide senior leadership in the Department's critical worldwide efforts to secure nuclear materials in support of President Obama's key nonproliferation objectives.
We have asked Dave to stay on as Acting Assistant Secretary through the budget roll out process and lay the foundation for a smooth transition for the new EM management team, and he has graciously agreed. During this crucial period he continues to enjoy our complete confidence in tackling the challenges of cleaning up the legacy of the Cold War, and we expect everyone to maintain their support of his work in EM.
We have a very talented team of career leaders in EM, and all of us will continue to benefit from their wisdom and experience as Dave transitions back to NNSA and once Monica transitions from NE, subject to Senate confirmation. Once again, please join us in congratulating Monica Regalbuto on her nomination, and in sharing our gratitude to Dave for his past and continuing commitment to serve unselfishly where needed.
Sincerely,
Secretary Moniz and Deputy Secretary Poneman |
