Message from ECA Executive Director Seth Kirshenberg on the Passing of Ed Helmenski, former Editor of Exchange Monitor Publications

On a somber note, ECA sends its condolences to Ed Helminski's family and the staff of Exchange Monitor Publications.  Ed, someone who has influenced the DOE cleanup program for over two decades, passed away on Friday, December 5. He was an advocate for the communities, the cleanup program, the Yucca Mountain project, high level waste disposal, and national security issues.  Ed was a frequent speaker at ECA conferences in the early years, always told the truth about the program, and always helped people see the big picture.

A couple of months ago, I sat in the back of the room with him at the Decision-Makers Forum. Ed put his arm around me and talked about helping veterans (through the Walter Reed Society) and making sure ECA took the right actions to move high level waste disposal forward.

Ed was a good and caring man and will missed by all of his friends and colleagues.

From Martin Schneider, Chief Executive Officer, Exchange Monitor Publications & Forums:

There will be a viewing on Tuesday 12/9 from 12 pm to 4 pm at Joseph Gawler's Sons Inc. Funeral Home, 5130 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC 20016, (202) 966-6400.  There will be a short memorial service/remembrance at 3 pm at the funeral home, followed by a reception/drinks at Chad's on Wisconsin Ave. from 4-6pm.

The family has asked in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Walter Reed Society.

Regards

Seth Kirshenberg
ECA Executive Director
