John Kotek nominated to be assistant secretary for nuclear energy

The White House has nominated John Kotek, a former managing partner at the Gallatin Group in Boise, to be assistant secretary for nuclear energy.

Kotek was one of several people nominated Oct. 2 for various administration posts. He now serves as the principal deputy assistant secretary for nuclear energy at the Department of Energy, a position he has held since January.

From 2007 to early this year, Kotek was principal and managing partner in the Idaho office for Gallatin Public Affairs. Before that, he was the staff director for the Blue Ribbon Commission on America’s Nuclear Future from 2010 to 2012. From 2007 to 2009, Kotek was a member of the American Nuclear Society Board of Directors, the White House press office said in a prepared statement.

Kotek served as senior consultant and manager for nuclear programs at Washington Policy and Analysis, Inc. from 2006 to 2007. From 2003 to 2006, he was the deputy manager in the Idaho Operations Office for the Department of Energy.

Kotek received a B.S. from the University of Illinois and an M.B.A. from the University of Maryland.
