Published: Tue, 04/17/12
The House Appropriations Committee released its draft Fiscal Year 2013 (FY13) Energy and Water Appropriations Bill this morning.
The bill would provide $32.1 billion to DOE and related agencies, which is a cut of $965 million from the President's FY13 budget request.
The Senate is expected to consider its version of the FY13 Energy and Water Appropriations Bill in one to two weeks.
Excerpts from today's House Appropriations Committee press release show funding highlights from the House's FY13 bill below.
Environmental Management
"Included in the legislation is $5.5 billion for environmental management activities, $166 million below last year's level and $106 million below the request. This includes $5 billion for Defense Environmental Cleanup to safely clean-up sites contaminated by previous nuclear weapons production."
Nuclear Security
"The bill provides a total of $11.3 billion for DOE's nuclear security programs, including Weapons Activities, Nuclear Nonproliferation, and Naval Reactors. This is a $275 million increase from last year."
Yucca Mountain
"The bill continues Congressional efforts to roll back the Obama Administration's politically motivated Yucca Mountain policy that runs contrary to the will of the Congress and the American people. In this vein, the bill provides $25 million to support Yucca Mountain activities to continue the viability of the program for the future."
