WASHINGTON, D.C. - The House Subcommittee on Public Lands and Environmental Regulation will hold a legislative hearing on Friday, April 12th on legislation sponsored by Natural Resources Committee Chairman Doc Hastings, Congressman Chuck Fleischmann (TN-03), and Congressman Ben Luján (NM-03) to establish the Manhattan Project National Historical Park.  The Manhattan Project was an unprecedented top-secret program to produce an atomic bomb, which played an integral part in ending World War II.  The park will include facilities at Hanford, Washington; Oak Ridge, Tennessee; and Los Alamos, New Mexico.

"This legislative hearing is an opportunity for local community members to discuss the importance and economic benefits of preserving these historic sites as national parks.  This bill will ensure that the Hanford B Reactor, and other sites throughout the country, remain preserved and accessible to the public for generations to come.  I'm pleased that this bill continues to have bipartisan support in both the House and the Senate and will continue working towards the goal of getting this legislation signed into law this Congress," said Chairman Hastings.
