The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee intends to vote on the nominations of Annie Caputo and David Wright to the NRC on Wednesday, July 12 at 9:45 a.m.

Caputo is a senior advisor to committee Chairman John Barrasso (R-WY) and Wright is a former utilities regulator in South Carolina. Both nominees are expected to clear the committee and go to the floor for a final confirmation vote.

If the senate confirms Caputo and Wright, the NRC will have a full slate of five commissioners, with NRC Chairwoman Kristine Svinicki having been confirmed for a new term late last month. View the Committee meeting agenda HERE.

The House Appropriations Committee is marking up the $37.56B FY2018 energy and water spending bill Wednesday, July 12 at 10:30am in 2359 Rayburn House Office Building, Washington, DC.

According to a committee press release, the bill comes in $209 million below the FY2017 enacted level and $3.65 billion above the President’s budget request. Funding is targeted toward national security efforts – including nuclear weapons activities – and energy and water infrastructure investments.

“This bill prioritizes fulfilling our national security needs and maintaining critical investments to support American competitiveness within tight budget caps,” said Subcommittee Chairman Mike Simpson. “It strikes a responsible balance between the modernization and safety of our nuclear weapons, advancing our national infrastructure, and strategic investments in basic science and energy R&D.”

The markup will be webcast live HERE.
