Environmental groups to get hearing on TVA's Clinch River nuclear plans

Environmental groups’ demands for a hearing concerning the Tennessee Valley Authority’s plans for small nuclear reactors at its abandoned Clinch River site near Kingston have been granted.

The Atomic Safety and Licensing Board of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ruled Tuesday that the hearing must be held concerning TVA’s application for an early site permit for the reactors.


The hearing was demanded by the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy and the Tennessee Environmental Council.

DOE Awards Contract for Savannah River Site Liquid Waste Services

Cincinnati -- The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today announced the award of a contract to Savannah River EcoManagement, LLC for Savannah River Site Liquid Waste Services. The contract is cost-plus-award-fee and includes an indefinite-delivery indefinite-quantity contract line item.

The total estimated value of the contract is approximately $4.7 billion. The period of performance includes a base period of seven years (including a transition period of 90 days) and an option period of three years. Three proposals were received in response to the solicitation.
