UPDATE: Draft Environmental Assessment for DWPF Comment Period Extended
ECA Staff | 12/23/19
On December 10, 2019, ECA published a story covering how an Environmental Assessment for Defense Waste Processing Facility Stream was posted to the Federal Register. This story is now being updated as the period for public comment has been extended for the Savannah River Site EA. The original story can be found here.
DOE has extended the public comment period from the original due date of January 9, 2020, in response to reviewers’ requests, for 32 days, so now the public comment period ends on February 10, 2020.
This topic will be discussed at the ECA annual meeting and we will also highlight the needs of both sender and receiver sites of various types of waste. Find information about the annual conference and an agenda here.
ECA supports the Department’s efforts to evaluate alternative treatment and disposal options that are demonstrated to be risk-based, protective of human health and the environment, and can expedite the cleanup of wastes in our communities. ECA also appreciates DOE ensuring there is an opportunity for public input and meaningful interaction with its stakeholders.
