HEARINGS
NNSA Administrator to face questions over weapons budget roles
Senate Armed Services Committee | 9/17/2020
The Senate Armed Services Committee is conducting a hearing today at 9:30 AM EDT. Chairman Jim Inhofe is seeking information on the role of the Pentagon's Nuclear Weapons Council in formulating the Department of Energy's
budget request.
The House included a provision in the energy budget legislation that would bar funding for the Nuclear Weapons Council to guide, develop or execute the budget proposal for the National Nuclear Security Administration.
In July, ECA released an article outlining Secretary of Energy Dan Brouillette's response to the Senate proposal on DOD and NNSA control over the budget.
The panel will hear from NNSA Administrator Lisa Gordon-Hagerty, Pentagon acquisition chief Ellen Lord, and Strategic Command head Adm. Charles Richard.

SRS Donates Structures for Regional Economic, Workforce Development
DOE-EM | 9/15/2020
EM and the management and operations contractor at the Savannah River Site (SRS) have been working with a local community reuse organization to dismantle six buildings for resale, with proceeds supporting regional economic and workforce development activities.
Built in the early 1990s, the metal buildings at SRS were no longer needed for DOE missions. They had been used to store materials for a coal-fired powerhouse shut down in 2012.
Under an agreement with the Savannah River Site Community Reuse Organization (SRSCRO), DOE-Savannah River disassembled the buildings and donated them to SRSCRO, which will sell them to be reassembled elsewhere. DOE-Savannah River expects to avoid a nearly $2 million cost to decommission and demolish the structures.
